Classic Rug Collection is delighted to introduce the third collection of Gee’s Bend Quilt Collection Rugs, based on the quilts by the world-famous women from Gee's Bend, Alabama. The rugs will be shown at the Architectural Digest Design Show. March 16-19 at Pier 94 in New York City. Our booth number is 514.
The new collection features hand-woven cotton flat weaves in five patterns and 3 sizes; hand-tufted New Zealand wool and bamboo silk rugs in 3 sizes, including a runner; and hand-knotted New Zealand wool and bamboo rugs in 1 size. All of the rugs are available in custom sizes; however, the prices are significantly more. All of the rugs are hand-made in India using the colors and patterns of the quilts on which they are based.
The rugs are produced under exclusive license with the individual quilters. All of the quilt designs are copyrighted by the individual Gee’s Bend quilters. Each quilter receives a royalty for every one of her rugs that is sold.
To learn more about the Gee's Bend quilters, please view a slideshow on the National Endowment for the Arts website. Mary Lee Bendolph, Loretta Pettway, and Lucy Mingo were recipients of 2015 NEA National heritage Awards for their contribution to the arts in America.
